Rutgers women’s basketball has landed former Mississippi State guard Jaylah Lampley in the transfer portal, with the announcement coming via her social media accounts. Lampley recently visited Rutgers last Friday and ultimately decided to commit early Sunday morning.
Lampleym who stands at 6-foot-1, spent only her freshman season with the Bulldogs, where she played in 30 games (starting 6) and averaged 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the floor. She scored in the double
digits 10 times last season and earned SEC freshman of the week honors for her 24 point, 10 for 12 shooting performance against Samford. She comes to Rutgers with three years of eligibility remaining.
Lampley was a very highly rated recruit coming out of Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis. She finished as the program’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, and steals. She was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior in high school after averaging 18 points, 5.8 rebounds, two assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Her production took another leap her senior year when she averaged just over 21 points per game.
Rutgers was close to landing Lampley coming out of high school under the previous coaching staff. She listed the Scarlet Knights in her top three schools, along with Mississippi State and Louisville before she ultimately chose to go to Starkville. A year later, she would opt to commit to the Knights.
