Jarell Quansah, the hard working former Liverpool player, made his move to the Bundesliga this summer. He was one of several players who left the club in Arne Slot’s overhaul. He left the club in July on good terms and only a day before the devastating news of Diogo Jota’s untimely death.
The news hit players, fans, and the overall football world hard, and in the six or so weeks since the accident, many tributes, large and small, have cropped up for Jota. Over in Germany, Quansah snagged his first
goal for his new club on Saturday afternoon.
Amidst his personal joy, the English defender took time to celebrate Jota by re-creating his famous and unique PlayStation goal celebration: sitting on the ground and pretending to press buttons on a game controller.
He’s not the first player to have done this. Ousmane Dembélé also pulled out this iconic move over the summer in the Club World Cup semi-final.
It’s sad but beautiful realizing how many people admired and will miss Jota. In a moment of personal pride for Quansah, he still remembered stopped to honor Jota. It was a touching moment and a great achievement for Quansah. Though Liverpool have yet to replace him in their lineup, we still hope that Quansah finds success in his new role.
