Last week, I asked the following question:
Do you believe that Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane will enter the very exclusive club of players who have hit both 1,000 yards in both receiving and rushing for the 2026-2027 NFL season?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
UpInPensacola is not concerned with the issue at this point, I guess.
This is like asking if your location will experience a direct hit of a hurricane this year… four months before the hurricane season begins.
Dave21 believes
it’s possible, but what would that do to him and his long-term future?
Well, it will be easier since there are more games each year, but at what cost does it come, as a toll on Achane? I would honestly like to see the touches get spread around a bit more. Wright is very capable, and wearing the defense down with a heavy combo of those 3 would be good to see.
cyberflea knows that it’s unlikely, given how rare it occurs, especially coupled with the fact that he will be the primary focus of every defense we face.
It’s only happened three times in the history of the NFL which tells you it will be highly unlikely. With an unproven QB and as it is now a suspect WR room. Defenses will be game planning on stopping Achane as their #1 priority making the accomplishment even more difficult.
Luvs2drnk points to multiple reasons why it’s very unlikely.
Two things make this very unlikely. One, Achane doesn’t have the supporting cast Craig and Faulk had to keep defenses honest. Two, he lacks the size to lead the league in touches, as McCaffrey did in 2019, and stay healthy. I would also mention that since 2019, McCaffrey has only played a full season in 3 out of the next 6 years following. Achane had 305 touches last year and is still dealing with an injury from last year.
ncchadphin4life says that accomplishing this would tell him one of two important things.
If Achane rushing for 1000 and receiving a 1000, it tells me 2 things. (1) The rest of the team is lacking or (2) We have one of the or the best Oline in the league and other weapons on the outside that teams must game plan for.
MiamiItaliano says it’s not likely to happen.
It’s only happened 3 times in NFL history. Roger Craig, Marshall Faulk and Christian McCaffrey. So, I doubt it.
CluelessNFLfan does not want to see him run into the ground.
No. That would mean over using him and I’m hopeful the new coaching staff is too smart for that
THEphinz says he could, but that he won’t.
Is he capable? Yes. Will he? No. If that happens, which would be incredible and fun, then this is a 12 win team, which they just arent.
SlayerNation1 points to the obvious double-edged sword with him getting that many touches in a season.
The double edged sword that is high usage rate.
Yes, it’s possible because of His talent and He will get the touches.
Of course, that just increases chance of missing games.
Also, every DC has an easy game plan to shut Achane down and the rest are JAGs.
After Achane, the skill player drop off is precipitous, to put it mildly.
Dolfanjoe says there’s a laundry list of things that would have to happen for him to accomplish this, so no!
This year i don’t think so. In order for this to happen so much has to fall into place. O line stay healthy and dominant. Defense has to stay healthy and dominant. Keep giving our offense back the ball quickly. When needed Willis will have to make the passing plays to give us a third down, and run the ball for that also ! The right plays will have to be called at the right time, keeping the opposing defenses rattled. Even the Refs will suddenly have to love Miami instead of the usual lopsided penalty calls against our team ! If all this happened this year, were not looking at a top 5 draft pick ! Were looking at going deep into the playoffs! Maybe even winning the Big Game ! Pretty dam good for a team going thru a complete rebuild with a good running back ! Vegas odds of 4.5 wins gets blown out of the water ! Back to reality: 5 backs should make this team. Hafley will use them all, have plays for all of them according to there strengths. Building around Achane means keeping him healthy for the next 3 years when they hope to compete for the scenario i started with ! Achane is a rich Man now. He knows he is on a rebuilding team as do the other players. He is not competing for a job like most. Do not think for a second that he could still not be traded ! They will bring in competition to push him and the other backs, very well may bring in one or two on cutdown day if they feel what we have is not enough. Joining the two thousand club is real nice, but at this point it makes little sense in so many ways!
USMCFinzFreak hopes they just don’t work him this hard, which would destroy the great player he is.
I hope Hafley doesn’t use him too much this year and wear him out or unnecessarily expose him to season/career ending injury(ies).
Phoenix6 says he could if others do their jobs well.
Do you believe that Achane will have 1,000yds rushing and receiving this season?
He could!
He would!
For it to happen though, several other players on offense must take some heat off him. He cannot be the only one carrying or receiving the ball, as defenses will laser in on him…
Francesco ITA points out that Achane is all we really have for sure right now. I hope that proves to ultimately be wrong.
The fact that we talk only of Achane gives an idea of the “depth” of our roster…. Save the guy for future yea…
JUK doesn’t think he will hit 1,000 yards in receiving, but maybe 2,000 combined.
I doubt he gets 1000 receiving. If he stays healthy, 2000 yards from scrimmage wouldn’t surprise me at all, though
RussianBot_69 believes that if he pulls it off, it should come with an asterisk, as it will have happened in 17 games, not 16.
In a 17 game season, certainly possible. But if it took 17 games, it would come with an asterisk, as Faulk, CMC, and Craig all did it in 16. Achane has the talent, not sure if the team around him is good enough to get him to that achievement or if it’s even worth it in a rebuild year.
That’s our random 15 for this evening. The overall consensus, with a few holdouts, is that it won’t happen for a variety of reasons. I’m on board with the idea that it could happen if the team is overall better than most think it will be, but it should not happen, as that would be far too much of a workload for a player of his size. As always thank you to each of you who took the time to answer our question of the day.
