After a major knee injury brought his development to a screeching halt, young Dujuan “Whisper” Richards spent last season trying to get his career back on track. At first, he was just with the U21s. Then he tried his luck on loan at Championship side Leicester City. Unfortunately, he would make just three appearances for them.
So this season the 20-year-old forward is dropping down a level, to the third division, with his loan move to AFC Wimbledon confirmed today. He will be the third Chelsea Academy
talent at the Dons, alongside fellow loanees Ollie Harrison and Donnell McNeilly. (McNeilly left Chelsea for good last year, joining Nottingham Forest, but he’s just gotten loaned out anyway; he was with Wycombe last campaign.)
Wimbledon finished 19th in League One last season, which almost matched their best ever finish since their re-founding in 2002. Perhaps Richards can help them set a new high this season.
“We’re really excited for Dujuan to join the squad, he’s a quality player with exciting attributes. He’s a really talented player that will get the fans off their seats and we’re pleased he’s joined the club.”
