With Roman Wilson and Michael Pittman Jr. still on injured reserve and Ben Skowronek questionable entering the Steelers’ Week 8 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh has added two receivers to its roster ahead of Sunday’s kickoff.
The Steelers signed wide receiver Brandon Smith to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and elevated wide receiver Brandon Johnson, the team announced Saturday afternoon.
Johnson will revert back to the practice squad following the game. But with Smith being signed, the Steelers now have an open slot on their practice squad.
Smith, who has already been elevated for three Steelers game this season, could not return to the active/inactive roster without being signed. He recorded two catches — his first of the year — for 24 yards against the New Orleans Saints last week.
Johnson has been elevated twice this season, making Sunday’s game his third and final elevation before he too will have to be signed. He has yet to record a catch this season.
