Newcastle United are reportedly working on a potential summer deal for a Sporting CP striker.
The man would be Luis Suarez, and the link makes all of the sense given Newcastle are in dire need of forward reinforcements ahead of the 2026/27 season—or a renaissance from those already in tow.
Journalist Sebastián Vidal reported that Newcastle have already begun groundwork on a Suarez move that could reach £50 million.
“⭐️ EXCLU | According to several of my sources, Newcastle is preparing a big move for the summer,” Vidal wrote on X. “The Magpies are working on the trail leading to Sporting CP striker Luis Suárez. The operation could reach around 50M£ and become the club’s major transfer in the next transfer window. #NUFC #Transfers #PremierLeague.”
Suarez has delivered strong numbers in Portugal this season, with the Colombia international scoring 29 goals and assisting on six more in 37 appearances across all competitions heading into the Champions League’s Round of 16 matchup against Bodo/Glimt.
Sporting signed the 28-year-old from Almería last summer, and he remains under contract until 2030, which is enough information to expect the Portugal giants to demand a hefty fee to sell the man so quickly after landing him.
Suarez’s profile is that of a striker who combines heavy physical presence with smooth movements inside the box, something Newcastle would certainly welcome and are seemingly prioritizing as they scout attacking players.
The report suggests Suarez would be open to a move to a larger European league if the right proposal materializes, given he’s entering the final prime seasons of his career.
With Newcastle using relying on Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa, and makeshift striker Anthony Gordon as their main goal scorers, it is obvious something has to happen during the summer transfer market.
At this stage, no formal bid has been submitted, and Sporting’s stance on a potential remains unclear. Vidal’s report frames the situation as exploratory rather than advanced, with negotiations yet to begin and over three months from the opening day of the transfer market for Premier League clubs.
