The raucous crowd in Perth, Australia was among WWE’s most energetic this year, and that excitement carried into Saturday’s Crown Jewel: Perth post-show, where Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque made
an appearance.
After Levesque sat down, the crowd erupted into chants of “We Want Edge,” referencing former WWE star Adam Copeland, now with AEW.
Big E, who was part of the post-show panel, looked over his shoulder at the crowd, then back at Levesque, who cracked a slight smile with his head down. Big E grinned and turned back to the camera.
The noise died down as Levesque thanked Tourism Western Australia — the agency promoting the state as a travel destination. But then one fan began singing Copeland’s iconic entrance theme, “Metalingus,” by Alter Bridge.
Soon, the entire crowd joined in, prompting a response.
“13,000 fans doing this all night long,” Levesque said, gesturing to the crowd. “It’s been epic.”
The crowd erupted again as Levesque discussed Cena nearing the end of his career, this time chanting for Batista — one of Cena’s biggest rivals — and Edge once more.
Following AEW’s All Out in September, Copeland announced he was leaving the company after a series of exhausting feuds that took a toll on him and his family.
In reality, his departure was to film the third season of Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he plays Ares. However, some speculated he might return to WWE for one final match against Cena.
Panelist and radio host Peter Rosenberg acknowledged the chants directly and asked Levesque if others had reached out to be a part of Cena’s farewell tour.
“John touched so many careers, was across so many people, helped so much talent out along the way or had moments with him. They all just want to be a part. And I get it. And just can’t do it with everybody,” said Levesque.
Ironically, the fan-led singing echoed a moment from earlier this year in Australia.
Back in February, during AEW’s Grand Slam event in Brisbane, Copeland wrestled what was likely his final match Down Under. As his entrance music faded, the crowd kept singing, filling the arena with the lyrics of “Metalingus.” The announcers fell silent as Copeland stood in the ring, visibly moved, as Australians paid tribute to the legendary star.
