What is the story about?
Washington comes out of Purdue with a win and extra week to rest, but also a full blown quarterback controversy. Brown made a strong case on Friday he should be the starter. This bye week feels like a turning point. If the coaches make the right call, this team could easily win a few more games. Make the wrong one and the Huskies likely miss a bowl game.
Dots
- Christian Caple has his day-after thoughts on the Purdue game ($), including whether Washington has a full blown quarterback controversy. He also asks how much of the performance was Purdue’s bad defense, the emergence of the run game, and other topics.
- Also from Caple is his recap of Fisch’s Monday press conference ($), which happens every week during the season. The big question was who is this team’s starter at quarterback? Fisch stated no decision has been made but Elijah Brown has earned consideration. You think?
- Most fans probably want a clear declaration right now that Brown is the starter, but I guess this is a step in the right direction. Or a step in the wrong direction because it ultimately will lead to starting Demond. We’ll learn more next week when they start game prep. It’s not impossible that Demond recaptures his previous form, but right now the answer is so clear and obvious as who should start.
- The offense simply scores points with Brown in the game.
- Again, Purdue’s defense is terrible, but you can’t argue the results with Brown:
- Hopefully we see Dez Roebuck continue to emerge, because he is a serious offensive weapon:
- Kevin Potts mostly does NFL draft stuff, but he analyzed and broke down a number of interesting plays from Friday’s Purdue game.
- All 14 of Washington’s transfers have appeared in a game this season. Can you guess which one hasn’t?
- Seems like the case most of the time. When one side of the ball is great, the other always seems to lag behind.
- I’m not 100% sure what this means, but we’re not in the bottom left corner so that’s good!
- And for defense:
- Great start for Kyler Gordon coming back from injury:
