On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs brought in rookie linebacker Aiden Fisher, a teammate of left tackle Kahlil Benson at Indiana last season, for a workout. Jason Anderson of 810 Sports was the first to report that he was expected to sign with the Chiefs’ practice squad
, and NFL Insider Jordan Schultz backed that up by reporting that he will be signing with Kansas City.Fisher, a seventh-round pick this year, was released by the Houston Texans last week after playing solely on special teams over three games this season. He recorded a tackle in the Week 2 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Fisher played the 18th-most snaps among Texans special-teams players this year.
Listed at 6 feet 1 inch and 231 pounds, Fisher was the 13th-ranked linebacker in the 2026 NFL Draft, according to draft expert Dane Brugler of The Athletic. He projected Fisher to be drafted in the fifth round. This was Dane’s takeaway from watching Fisher’s film.
“Fisher looks small at times on film, but he is equal parts athletic and tough, and his play personality should make him an easy sell in a war room. He projects as a low-end NFL starter, similar to Drue Tranquill.”
Fisher spent two years at James Madison before transferring to Indiana, following head coach Curt Cignetti. During his time with the Hoosiers, Fisher totaled 215 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and five passes defended.
The comparison to Tranquill speaks to Fisher’s potential as an all-around linebacker who can make plays against the pass and run. The Chiefs will look to develop the National Champion from the practice squad, and reserve linebacker Jeffrey Bassa could face that competition on the depth chart sooner rather than later.
