In today’s Dub Hub:
- Steve Kerr says there’s no timeline for Jonathan Kuminga’s return as he continues to deal with a knee injury.
- A recent article by Andscape details Steph Curry’s sneaker free agency.
- Kevin Durant to miss the Suns’ next two games while dealing with a family matter, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
After grinding through the toughest stretch of their schedule last week, the Golden State Warriors are starting to feel its toll on the injury front. Steve Kerr spoke to reporters Sunday about some of those
issues — most notably Jonathan Kuminga, who still has no timeline for a return while recovering from bilateral patellar tendinitis.
As Kerr noted, the Warriors need Kuminga during stretches where the schedule tightens up in order to help carry the load and keep their veteran core from being overextended. But Kuminga has now missed five straight games, and the uncertainty around his knee hasn’t improved.
The veteran trio of Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green has shown they can carry stretches when needed, but it’s not something they can sustain through the nightly demands of the regular season.
That’s where Kuminga and the rest of the Warriors’ young core becomes essential, but until there’s real movement with his recovery, Golden State will have to keep navigating this early-season grind without him.

Jonathan Kuminga to miss sixth straight game as Warriors injury woes grow | The Athletic
The injury hits don’t stop there for the Warriors. Kerr announced that 39-year-old big man Al Horford will miss at least a week because of a sciatica issue. Horford left Friday’s loss to the Blazers late in the third quarter with a right hamstring injury. The Warriors said Horford was scheduled to get an MRI in the near future.
Veteran forward Draymond Green is also questionable for Monday’s game against the Jazz. Kerr said Green suffered a foot sprain in Friday’s loss after getting tangled up with Trail Blazers’ big man Donovan Clingan. The Warriors said Green already underwent an MRI on his foot. Kerr said Trayce Jackson-Davis would likely get more minutes with Horford sidelined and Green’s status unclear.
How Stephen Curry’s sneaker free agency became the biggest story — and fumble — in footwear, perhaps ever | Andscape
But, let’s be real: Basketball fans, sneakerheads and the culture want this story to come full circle with Curry returning to sign with the Swoosh.
“Imagine if Curry was with Nike … he’d have the best-selling shoe,” said David Giongco, a Bay Area native basketball and sneaker personality known as @dghoops on YouTube. “I think he should go with a brand like Nike — one of the best brands in the business — and they should give him everything.”
It surely felt like an intentional choice that Curry decided to start his sneaker free agency in Nikes, honoring Bryant, the most-revered sneaker free agent in NBA history, who essentially created the concept more than 20 years ago.

Mavs’ Thompson scoffs at Morant’s trash talk after Grizzlies’ win | ESPN
Thompson described Morant’s on-court comments as “nothing of intelligent depth” and alluded to the off-court issues, suspensions and injuries that have marred Morant’s career since he made consecutive All-Star appearances in 2022 and 2023.
“It was really just running his mouth, and he’s been running his mouth for a long time,” Thompson said. “It’s funny to run your mouth when you’re on the bench. It’s kind of the story of his career so far, just leaving us wanting more.
“We all want to see him out there and do his best, but he’s just been letting a lot of other stuff get in the way of that. We need that in the NBA. We need our best players to be out there, and when you’re a star, it comes with a great responsibility. I hate to see that go to waste.”

Warriors officially become a middling team by giving up the middle lane too often
Whenever the Warriors fail to score, the fact that opponents make it a point to run and gain an advantage in transition is more pronounced, much more when that team happens to be younger, faster, and more athletic than they are (which, in their case, is on an almost game-to-game basis). Having to scramble back translates to cross matches and, even worse, one or two defenders finding themselves with no matchup at all, which causes the entire infrastructure to fall apart quickly
