The Dallas Cowboys are averaging less than 80 yards a game running the football, and they need to get it going somehow against a tough Philadelphia Eagles defense. Mike Pettine provides a ton of experience to the Cowboys, and they hope it spreads throughout the entire coaching staff.
It’s been struggle for the Cowboys’ offense handling pressure over the last two games, but correcting won’t be difficult according to Dak Prescott. Also, Dallas continues to get good news when it comes to injuries.
Dak Prescott details how finding rhythm in run game can help spark Cowboys offense – Tommy Yarrish, DallasCowboys.com
The
Cowboys running game has taken a step back from last season. Dak Prescott dives into the importance of finding it again going forward.
If Dallas can get the run game going, then it sets up an area Prescott is confident in and one he’s been at the best at over the course of his career: Play action, which can also get the Cowboys’ offense back to hitting more explosive plays.
“From there, you get your play action, your passes,” Prescott said. “If you look at those numbers, I can guarantee you more than half of those were run action type plays and explosives. From there, a lot of things can open up.”
Cowboys leaning on Mike Pettine as sounding board for Christian Parker, coaching staff – Joseph Hoyt, Dallas Morning News
Mike Pettine will spend most of his time watching film on the Cowboys and their opponents. The goal is to help Christian Parker and the other coaches as well.
Pettine started working Wednesday of last week. He said his first few days were like drinking water from a fire hose. By Sunday, he was in the coaches’ box in Green Bay helping Parker and the Cowboys defense.
Parker reflected on when the two coached together in Green Bay, starting in 2019. Parker was in the coaches’ box back then, operating as Pettine’s “eyes in the sky.” The roles were reversed Sunday.
“He’s the same for me during the game,” Parker said.

Will Cowboys Brian Schottenheimer give up play-calling? Here’s his answer – Nick Harris, Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Dallas has seen their offense hit a rough patch lately. Despite this, Brian Schottenheimer is certain he can get them back on track with him as the play caller.
“No, absolutely not,” Schottenheimer said. “I have incredible confidence in our offense. We have not played well the last two weeks, we have addressed a lot of the reasons why. We haven’t changed who we are. We are still a good explosive offense with weapons. We can hurt you a lot of different ways. I certainly haven’t lost the ability to call plays. I’m an elite play-caller in this league, and it can change around quickly.”
The Cowboys have played poorly vs. the blitz the past 2 weeks. What’s the problem? – Jon Machota, The Athletic
Dak Prescott has been kown for being excellent against the blitz. With that not being the case lately, some serious questions need to be answered.
“I just have to simplify the plan,” Prescott said after Sunday night’s 23-13 loss at Green Bay. “That starts with me and really it ends with me. You give yourself a few options on a blitz and you get in the game and you want to do this one, want to do that one, and I just have to be more simple and more direct in exactly what I want to do. I don’t want to get too into it and tell my answers, but it is definitely fixable.”
Cowboys Injury Report: Dallas Getting Much-Needed Defensive Reinforcements – Randy Gurzi, SI.com
Dallas hasn’t had the best luck on the injury front this season. Thankfully, their defense is set to get some key guys back on Monday night.
Injuries have been a major concern for the Dallas Cowboys this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. That’s been frustrating for a unit that was struggling to start the season, and things only got worse when their most talented players were put on the shelf.
There has been some good news this week, however, with players such as linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and cornerback Cobie Durant trending toward a return when Dallas plays the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football in Week 7.
