The New York Jets lost their second straight game against an AFC East opponent on Sunday. Last week the Jets lost a hard fought game to the defending AFC champions New England Patriots. That was understandable. Much less understandable was today’s 28 – 25 loss at home to the previously winless Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins dominated the action for most of the game, building a two touchdown lead at halftime and maintaining an 11 point lead with less than five minutes remaining in the game before a late
Jets touchdown made the score look closer than the game actually was. This loss came against a Dolphins team that had never held a lead at any point in the season prior to today. Today the Dolphins never trailed. It was a humiliating performance by the Jets.
The horrendous Jets loss left the Jets with a 2-5 record to start the season, in 3rd place in the AFC East. Now the Jets look to get back on the winning track as they stay home to take on the 3-4 Las Vegas Raiders in East Rutherford, New Jersey next Sunday. The Raiders have lost four straight games after starting the season 3-0. Their latest loss came at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams by a 35 – 21 score. The Raiders’ defense has collapsed in their four game losing streak, surrendering 30+ points in each of the four games. With the Raiders making the long trip east for this game and suffering through the early game start, on paper this looks like a get well game for the Jets. However, the way the Jets are playing no game on the schedule should be looked at as an easy win.
Let’s take a look at the current odds for this game according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The oddsmakers think this game is close to a tossup. The current line has the Jets home favorites by 1.5 points. The game has an over/under of 44.5 points. On the moneyline the Jets are -118 while the Dolphins are +100.
Let’s see if the Jets can recover from a terrible loss and take care of business at home against the Raiders.
