Former Maryland baseball pitcher Sean Burke is leading his team, the Chicago White Sox, on to the American League Division Series.
The White Sox captured a 7-3 wild card win over the Houston Astros, with Burke starting the critical game two. He pitched four innings, only allowing four hits and three earned runs and leading the platoon of pitchers with a strong eight strikeouts.
Chicago made
an early statement in the game, scoring four runs in the top half of the first inning. Nothing much was done from the Astros, who scored their only three runs of the game off Burke. Chicago added another three runs in the top of the sixth inning to keep the game out of reach for Houston.
In a press conference before game two, White Sox manager Will Venable made it clear he knew ahead of time Burke would be the trap card coming into the game, calling him the “ace” and an important piece of the Chicago rotation.
Burke and the White Sox will look to carry their current momentum on the road against the Cleveland Guardians in the first game of the ALDS, which will begin on Oct 3.
