After a scorching hot month of July, Mariner catching prospect Luke Stevenson mashed his way to the top of the High-A Northwest League offensive charts and earned himself the title for the league’s player of the month. Stevenson, who has rebounded admirably after a rough stretch in late spring and early summer, caught fire after some intriguing adjustments and looks to have sorted through his struggles. For reference his monthly slashline trends as follows:

That’s a month-to-month jump in OPS of over 500 points!!
This is no flash in the pan, either; Stevenson was mirroring this level of production in the first month of the season, and given his level of pedigree as a 2025 first rounder, there’s plenty of reason to believe that his breakout has legitimate sticking power. He’s been more aggressive at the plate over the past few weeks, seeking out damage earlier in the count and subsequently getting better pitches to hit. His whiff issues haven’t been alleviated by the new approach, but his profile doesn’t rely on bat-to-ball all that much, particularly when he’s able to get into his immense raw power. Given his excellent eye at the dish, light tower power from the left side, and outstanding skills and leadership behind the plate, Stevenson is amongst the system’s most elite prospects and has a definite “up arrow” next to his name as we approach the end of the minor league season. He’s continued this production into the early goings of August and will look to end the season on a high note.
Funnily enough, Stevenson was unable to take the crown for best Mariner minor league hitter in the month of July; that honor went to ACL outfielder Kelvin Alcantara, whose 1.266 OPS and .400 batting average were undeniably worthy of the honor.
