Rookies report to Green Bay Packers training camp on Monday, which means that the full coaching staff will be back to work starting this week. The Packers haven’t made many transactions since the signing of their initial group of undrafted free agents post-draft, but that seems to be changing soon, as Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports is reporting that the Packers will be working out kicker Lenny Krieg tomorrow.
Krieg, a German national, originally played soccer before transitioning to American football after his brother spent time in Wisconsin. Eventually, Krieg played in both the German league for the Berlin Adler and the European League with the Stuttgart Surge. In 2025, after kicking a perfect series of attempts at the NFL Scouting Combine, he earned an opportunity with the Atlanta Falcons.
Krieg was the Falcons’ international exemption player last year and was not counted against the team’s practice squad numbers. After the year, he signed a reserve-futures deal with the New York Jets, as the Falcons cleared their coaching staff and front office. Krieg remained a member of the Jets until he was waived by the team on June 1st. Two days later, the Jets signed veteran kicker Jason Sanders.
If Krieg ends up joining the Packers, he has the opportunity to become their international exemption player. Right now, Green Bay’s exempt player is edge rusher Dante Barnett, who was signed by the team in late October last year. Don’t be surprised if there’s a Krieg for Barnett swap tomorrow.
If Krieg is added, this move would give the Packers three kickers, including rookie draft pick Trey Smack and also Lucas Havrisik. Generally, Green Bay doesn’t keep more than two kickers on the roster, so Havrisik could be on thin ice moving forward.
