ProBox will be enjoying the Jersey life next month. One day after Olympic gold medalist Hebert Conceicao headlines a show in Newark on the 10th, they’ll pack their bags for another night of fights in Atlantic City.
The middleweight main event pits 23-year-old local favorite Vito Mielnicki Jr (22-1, 13 KO) against California’s Omar Ulises Huerta (15-0-1, 13 KO). Huerta marks Mielnicki’s fourth consecutive undefeated opponent, but his record is infinitely stronger on paper than in reality. Just three
of Huerta’s pro opponents entered the ring with winning records, two of them 1-0, and he’s only been booked past six rounds once. While it’s understandable that they’d set Mielnicki up for an overwhelming victory in his home state, it’s a rare miss from ProBox’s matchmakers.
Miami-based Cuban super welterweight prospect Yan Marcos (14-0, 10 KO) also sees action against New Jersey’s own Dwyke Flemmings Jr (11-0, 10 KO) while the highest-ranked fighter of the whole weekend, WBO mandatory light flyweight champion Erik Badillo (19-0, 8 KO), takes on dangerous-but-unlucky former title challenger Axel Aragon Vega (18-6-1, 10 KO).
Not their best effort, but not a terrible lineup, especially since the evening’s featured boxing attraction between Tyson Fury and Arslanbek Makhmudov should end well before this one starts.
