The hot start to the season had to end eventually, and last week’s picks went 4-5. We live, we learn, we spend.
Obligatory Bet Against UNC Of The Week
Grandpa Bill caused a bit of a stir in UCF circles by referring to UCF simply as “Central,” which is a breach in etiquette. More importantly, this raises the question: Does Bill even know who his team is playing this week, given the vague reference? Possibly not. UCF -6.5 sounds even better now.
Is It A Good Week To Bet NC State?
The answer to that question
is never, but I’m taking the NC State moneyline this afternoon, let’s get this thing.
Around The Country
Rice -2.5 vs. Charlotte (W; Rice 28-17) — Charlotte’s still bad.
Texas Tech vs. Utah -3 — All that money Texas Tech spent in the offseason is producing results a little faster than I was guessing, but this Utes team has been equally impressive early and I’ll take them to get the job done at home. Could be lots of points in this one.
Arkansas vs. Memphis +7.5 — I’m not sure what to make of Arkansas at this point, though that performance in Oxford last week was encouraging for the Hogs. Memphis is good enough to keep this thing within a score at home and I expect will move the ball fine against that defense.
Arizona State vs. Baylor -2.5 — Arizona State was definitely charmed in getting to the playoffs last season but that mojo appears to be dissipating in the absence of Cam Skattebo, and ASU has looked more like one would expect of a team with good-but-not-great talent. Right now, at least, Baylor’s offense is much better, and that’s good enough for me.
Stanford vs. UVA -15.5 — Stanford heading across the country, its head swelled big after a victory over Boston College, to face a rejuvenated Virginia offense? Recipe for disaster, if you ask me. Stanford being bad is also a recipe for the Cardinal having a disaster, if you ask me.
