It’s week ten of the college football season and the Hawkeyes are on their second and final bye week of the year as they prepare for a date with #6 Oregon next week.
While the Hawkeyes are off this weekend,
there’s still plenty of football to watch, including some games with implications for Iowa. In the Big Ten, there are two games in the early window. Iowa fans should be rooting for Rutgers against Illinois because Illinois is Illinois and Iowa needs that win over Rutgers to age well. Similar story with Penn State at Ohio State. Always root for the death star to crash but also, Penn State turning things around would be a boon to Iowa.
Elsewhere, #20 Texas has been thrown around as a good comp to the Hawkeyes. Having them lose to Vandy would certainly help the Hawkeyes. Ditto #22 Houston at home against West Virginia. And then tangentially, Navy is the top team receiving votes while North Texas is currently on the fringe of a playoff berth. They face off in the early window.
In the afternoon, let’s root for the team’s Iowa has played in Big Ten matchups. That’s Minnesota against MSU and IU at Maryland. Outside of that, I suppose we’re rooting for some upsets of the mid-tier ranked teams such as #16 Louisville, #15 Virginia and #13 Texas Tech.
In the evening, it would be great if Purdue could fin a way to win a game. They’re at #21 Michigan. And then I suppose we should be rooting for Nebraska (PUKE) against #23 USC. Outside the conference, #18 Oklahoma at #14 Tennessee features a pair of 6-2 teams and one of them should fall behind Iowa next week. We’ll see if that holds true.
Similar story in the late window with #17 Cincinnati at #24 Utah. Cincy only has one loss so perhaps we’re rooting for them?
