After the recent contract extension involving Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams, Stafford has a chance to make even more money on top of what’s already been one of the most profitable NFL careers in history.
Any guy at a bar can say “I’d throw a football for $100 million”, but what team will pay that guy? For Stafford, it’s not a dream, it’s a reality that more teams than not around the NFL would pay him whatever they could to have him the spin the ball for them.
Unfortunately for 31 other
teams, the Rams have Stafford.
Good for him, he’s earned it, and hopefully he can somehow manage an even more successful season than last year’s MVP campaign. If not, he’ll still will make a heck of a salary for the 2026 season, but if Stafford hits all his incentives, he’ll make even more.
The chance to make more money on top of a nice amount already sounds like a good problem to have, but what do I know?

How Matthew Stafford can make NFL history with his new contract (ramswire)
“While Matthew Stafford’s wealth comes from his on-field ability, its rapid growth comes from his tremendous business acumen. On Thursday, Stafford signed a one-year extension for $55 million that could balloon up to $60 million, placing Stafford among the NFL’s top earners.
Stafford, one of the NFL’s elder statesmen, has earned over $400 million over his illustrious career. Following an MVP campaign in 2025, Stafford was set to enter the final year of his contract. With the extension tying him to Los Angeles through 2027, if Stafford plays two more years, he’ll be the first player in NFL history to exceed over $500 million in career earnings.“
Matthew Stafford’s massive extension says one thing about Seahawks rival (12thmanrising)
“His one-year extension for 2027 is for $55 million and is worth as much as $60 million with incentives. He will be 39 years old in the season after next, but he had his best season at age 37 when he threw for an NFL-leading 46 touchdowns and was named the league MVP. He is still going to be good in two years.
The potential problem, though, and surely one that the Rams have already thought of, is that they have many high-performing players who will want to get paid in 2027, too. The team’s list of important free agents is vast.“

“We are in an Era that has never happened before as Rams fans. Snead is the best GM in team history. He is unorthodox for sure, but no other GM has made the kind of moves he has. Moves that draw great criticism, but end up making more sense than anyone could ever imagine. Then he is teamed up with the greatest coach to ever man the Rams sideline. We’ve had some good coaches, but Sean is a great coach. It’s very possible that they both eventually end up in the HOF. The McVay coaching tree is crazy. He has numerous disciples that are either head coaches or coordinators around the league and others that have gotten their shots and not been the right fit. No other coach has put this number of guys in this kind of position. I don’t think any other team has to constantly replace assistant coaches. I truly hope both these guys are around for many more years.” –RammingSpeed
