We have a bracket for the 2026 Big East women’s soccer tournament! More importantly for our purposes here, we have a bracket for the conference women’s soccer tournament that includes YOUR Marquette Golden Eagles for the first time since 2017!
With a league record of 3-2-5 in conference play, Marquette finished in a tie with Seton Hall and Creighton for third place in the Big East this season with 14 points each. The Golden Eagles beat Creighton 2-1 and went to a 1-1 tie with Seton Hall, while the Pirates
picked up a 1-0 win in their meeting with the Bluejays this season. You can see how this went with SHU at #3, MU at #4, and CU at #5 and thus outside the field. Marquette and Seton Hall also finished with just two losses in league play while Creighton has four. Then again, they have four wins and MU and SHU only have three, so there’s that, I guess.
Xavier won the regular season title with an unbeaten record of 7-0-3 and 24 points. It was a narrow situation that came down to the last day of the regular season as Villanova finished second with a record of 7-1-2 and 23 points. VU’s loss is actually to Butler, by a score of 1-0, while the Wildcats went to a 0-0 draw with the Musketeers.
This sets up Villanova vs Seton Hall in one semifinal at Maryland SportsPlex in Boyds, Maryland, on Wednesday, November 11th, while Xavier and Marquette will square off in the other. Xavier defeated Marquette 2-1 back on October 21st, which was MU’s first loss of league play at the time, which means the Golden Eagles are now 0-5-1 in the last six encounters with the Musketeers.
It should be said: With an RPI of #83 through matches played on Saturday, November 7th, Marquette’s only pathway to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2016 goes through hoisting the tournament title trophy on Saturday, November 14th.
