It might be odd to celebrate a goalless draw. But even if Chelsea Women were at the top of their game managing to meet OL Lyonnes at their level while playing away will always be a case for some celebration.
We shouldn’t be so lenient for this upcoming match. Yes, the Blues will be tired from playing five matches across a 15-day span. But we should have enough gas left in the tank to do what we’re supposed to against a West Ham team that haven’t been in their best form,

West Ham team news: A 10th-place finish in the Women’s Super League last season was not in the Hammers’ plan. A massive squad overhaul took place, with the likes of Shekiera Martínez and Katrina Gorry moving out of the club, duly followed by the arrival of players such as Arsenal’s Laia Codina and London City Lionesses’ Saki Kumagai.
Like Chelsea, West Ham haven’t had an easy going with injuries. Their injury list is also long, with defenders Eva Nyström and Tuva Hansen, as well as forwards Ebony Salmon and Riko Ueki, out of contention.
Chelsea team news: To the surprise of several amidst the fan base, the Blues rose to the occasion and managed to draw a point against UEFA Women’s Champions League runners-up, OL Lyonnes, at their home turf. There were close shaves on both sides but one could argue Chelsea had the edge over the French outfit, with two penalty calls overturned by VAR on very narrow — if not questionable — decisions.
For this weekend’s matchup, Naomi Girma is a confirmed absence as her injury woes persist. However we could see the return of Erin Cuthbert and Manaka Matsukubo, who have yet to feature this season.
Previously: Four goals from four different players.
