It’s the best time to be a Bayern Munich supporter. Despite a shock 2-1 loss to FC Augsburg, Bayern are back to playing an electric brand of football, breaking multiple records along the way.
The Bavarian’s started the season with a 16 game winning streak across all competitions—a new record in Europe’s top five leagues, while Vincent Kompany recorded the best start to a Bundesliga season in Bayern’s history, pipping the likes of Jupp Heynckes, Pep Guardiola and Hansi Flick.
It’s not just supporters
who are happy with Bayern Munich’s breathtaking form, but also the board—including Chief Executive Officer, Jan-Christian Dreesen.
“The season is still long,” declared a composed Dreesen in an interview with Bild am Sonntag (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Of course I’m happy with this first half of the season, the likes of which we’ve never had before, especially regarding our attacking football, our goal scoring record, and our goal difference. Vincent Kompany has given the team back that hunger to keep pushing when we’re in the lead and to score even more goals – even though that didn’t work out against Augsburg today. The team is having fun playing football, and that spark is contagious. If things stay like this until the end of the season, we’ll hopefully win a few titles.”
The start to the season has been spectacular. Undeniable. However, after the loss to Augsburg, the narrative has shifted, begging the question: how will the season end? Yes, the start matters and acts as a launch pad for the rest of the season. But it’s all null and void if Bayern conclude the season empty-handed—titleless.
Bayern will begin to answer the crucial question in their Champions League clash against PSV as the rest of the season continues to unfold.
