Gable Steveson is returning to the mats.
The 2020 Olympic gold medalist, who also captured a pair of NCAA titles for the University of Minnesota, recently signed a deal to compete for Real American Freestyle (RAF). A date and opponent for Steveson’s RAF debut has yet to be determined.
I imagine this rematch from last year’s NCAA tourney would be in the conversation.
“Gable is a generational athlete and one of the biggest stars our sport has ever produced,” said Chad Bronstein, CEO and Co-Founder of Real
American Freestyle. “We set out to build a true professional home for the best wrestlers in the world and Gable choosing RAF is proof that we’re doing exactly that.”
Steveson, 25, is also an active MMA fighter with a 3-0 record under coach Jon Jones.
Signing with RAF is not expected to impact his future with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which seems inevitable at this stage. Several active UFC fighters are currently signed with RAF, including lightweight bad boy Arman Tsarukyan and welterweight veteran Colby Covington.
Both “Ahalkalakets” and “Chaos” will be in action at RAF07 this weekend in Tampa.
