The Tigers remain hot on the recruiting trail following a fantastic weekend of official visits, and they are already preparing for another slate of visitors.
Right now, there is one keyword floating around the LSU staff and among many of the nation’s top uncommitted prospects: buzz.
There is buzz surrounding several key prospects who could potentially commit to the Tigers in the near future following their official visits. That buzz extends not only to prospects who visited this past weekend, but even
to one player who took his official visit back in April. There is also growing buzz around LSU potentially landing a visit from an elite prospect who is ranked as the No. 1 player at his position nationally.
Tre Segarra came to LSU this past weekend after canceling a visit to Penn State in favor of making the trip to Baton Rouge. The word from those close to his recruitment is that LSU did an outstanding job and made a tremendous impression on the Duncan, South Carolina prospect.
Segarra is the No. 7 running back in the nation and is rated as a 4-star prospect across all major recruiting services. He was expected to take an official visit to Tennessee, but that trip is reportedly no longer taking place. As a result, many recruiting insiders now believe LSU is the team to beat for his commitment.
LSU was also able to improve its standing with 4-star offensive lineman Kelsey Adams. Following his visit, the buzz around LSU suggested that a commitment could be coming soon.
However, Adams still plans to take an official visit to Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are expected to make this recruitment highly competitive. It is also important not to overlook the fact that Adams remains committed to Georgia. This recruitment appears to be headed for an interesting finish, but LSU currently seems to hold the advantage.
Over the weekend, the Tigers hosted seven prospects, and three of those seven have already committed. Additionally, LSU is believed to be in a favorable position with two of the remaining four visitors. If those predictions prove accurate, it would represent an outstanding return from a single official visit weekend.
But the momentum doesn’t stop there.
The Tigers hosted offensive lineman Terrance Smith for an official visit back in April. Going into that visit, it was already believed that LSU was trending in the right direction. Since then, the buzz surrounding Smith has only grown stronger, with LSU now widely viewed as the clear team to beat.
Smith has scheduled his commitment announcement for June 15. A major factor in his recruitment appears to be his long-standing relationship with offensive line coach Eric Wolford. Many believe that connection could ultimately be the difference-maker.
Now, attention turns to the next weekend of official visits.
We will have you covered with the latest visitor lists as the weekend approaches, especially considering the growing buzz around Trey Martin potentially becoming another running back commitment for the Tigers.
However, the work of getting elite prospects on campus is far from over.
There is also some buzz surrounding the possibility of LSU hosting the No. 1 wide receiver in the nation, Monshun Sales, for a visit. That would represent a massive opportunity for the Tigers.
Sales was heavily interested in LSU earlier in his recruitment before things appeared to cool off. Now, with the staff fully focused on recruiting following spring football, it seems the relationship may be heating up once again.
Regardless of whether Sales visits Baton Rouge, Indiana remains the team to beat in his recruitment.
Sales is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound wide receiver from Indiana. Prospects of his caliber rarely come out of the state, and given the recent success of the Hoosiers, expect Indiana to do everything possible to keep him at home.
Naturally, LSU’s pursuit of Sales raises several questions. However, those questions can wait for another day. Before any serious discussion about landing him can begin, the Tigers must first get him on campus for a visit.
Next weekend will serve as LSU’s final major recruiting weekend before the summer dead period begins.
The dead period starts on June 23 and runs through July 31. During that time, coaches are prohibited from having in-person contact with prospects or hosting campus visits. However, communication through phone calls, text messages, and other approved forms of contact remains permitted.
With the dead period rapidly approaching, LSU will look to capitalize on its current momentum and continue stacking commitments before recruiting activity temporarily slows down.
