Gerard Pique has shared his verdict on Marc Cucurella and Jose Mourinho joining Real Madrid and joked that he had wanted Alvaro Arbeloa to stay as manager.
Mourinho has returned to the Santiago Bernabeu for another spell after Los Blancos endured yet another trophyless season in 2025-26.
Speaking at an event on Wednesday, Pique admitted he was disappointed to see Arbeloa go.
“I wished Madrid had done a little better this season, I wanted Álvaro Arbeloa to stay,” he said.
“He provided a lot of entertainment
and I wanted it to continue, the spirit of Juanito and the European Cups in a Madrid-Levante match!”
The former Barca defender than had a few words to sign about his replacement, adding: “Mou is a good candidate to talk about everything but football.”
Pique was also asked about Cucurella and replied: “It didn’t bother me. I understand it because there are always personal interests. In this case I wish Cucurella, on a personal level, that he has a good career, but he has signed for Real Madrid and you know what I think of that club.”
