Las Vegas Raiders second-year general manager is running the team’s head-coaching search with part owner Tom Brady.
Both are pretty inexperienced in being part of coaching searches. Brady helped run last
year’s process that ended up with the awful hiring Pete Carroll as head coach. The Raiders hired Spytek on January 222 to be the tea’s general manager. Carroll was hired two days later.
Technically, one could argue that Spytek was part of the Carroll decision. Sure. He was told when hired the direction the team wanted to do. He signed up for the idea and met with Carroll shortly before he was officially hired. But, really, the Carroll decision didn’t include Spytek much.
Spytek was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ vice president of player personnel in 2022 the team hired Todd Bowles to be the head coach. But it wasn’t much of a search.. Bowles was promoted from defensive coordinator after Bruce Arians stepped down late in the offseason. So, Spytek, who likely wouldn’t have had a big role in a search, anyway, didn’t learn much in that process.
Spytek was the Tampa Bay’s director of player personnel in 2019 when Arians was hired. But he wasn’t a part of that hire as welll.
So, as he jumps into this search, Spytek is doing it with very little experience. Is that a concern to you?
