As the New England Patriots ramped up work on the New York Jets, so did Christian Gonzalez.
The extended All-Pro graduated from limited participation to full participation for Thursday’s practice in Foxborough. He had been ruled out for back-to-back games due to a September shoulder injury before returning this week for AFC East prep.
But the absences of fellow cornerbacks Carlton Davis III and Karon Prunty continued. Neck and hamstring injuries, respectively, kept the veteran and the rookie inactive
for the 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. And an illness saw defensive tackle Cory Durden become a third member of the sidelined group.
Here’s the second injury report ahead of Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Gillette Stadium.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
Patriots
- DT Cory Durden (illness)
- CB Carlton Davis III (neck)
- CB Karon Prunty (hamstring)
Jets
- RB Breece Hall (quad)
- WR Adonai Mitchell (finger)
- G Dylan Parham (knee)
- DE Joseph Ossai (ankle)
The Patriots had been down four corners last weekend. Davis and Prunty have now both missed five consecutive practices for a depth chart that called upon Kindle Vildor as a 53-man promotion.
As for the third non-participant on Thursday, Durden stands with 47.8 percent of the defensive snaps through New England’s 3-2 start to the campaign. The defensive tackle, who quickly rose from the practice squad to the active roster upon arriving in 2025, has started every game and been credited with seven tackles along with one quarterback hit.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle)
- WR A.J. Brown (ankle — IR return)
- OT Will Campbell (knee)
- OT Morgan Moses (foot)
- OT Marcus Bryant (ankle — IR return)
- LB Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder)
- LB Christian Elliss (chest)
- CB Marcus Jones (ankle)
- CB Charles Woods (shoulder)
- CB Channing Canada (hamstring)
- S Kevin Byard III (chest)
- S Craig Woodson (shoulder)
Jets
- WR Omar Cooper Jr. (ankle — IR return)
- TE Kenyon Sadiq (concussion)
- S Dane Belton (knee)
After beginning Jets prep with 13 partial participants, the Patriots went with 12 in that capacity on Thursday. Count the team’s starting left tackle out of LSU and rotational running back out of Ohio State among them. Both Campbell and Henderson had been downgraded from questionable to out after departing in the second quarter against the Raiders. Both have been limited since. The former No. 4 overall pick is reportedly week-to-week with a knee injury after rookie Caleb Lomu stepped in on the blindside. The former No. 38 overall pick’s high ankle sprain, meanwhile, brought summer trade acquisition Corey Kiner up a rung in the backfield behind leading rusher Rhamondre Stevenson.
The 21-day practice windows also recently opened for two members of New England’s injured reserve.
FULL PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- QB Drake Maye (right shoulder)
- CB Christian Gonzalez (shoulder)
Jets
- LB Kiko Mauigoa (quad)
Gonzalez had a hand in eight tackles and five passes defensed before missing the initial matchups of October. The shutdown corner is on track to be back after going in full on Thursday. No. 0 joined Maye there.
The Patriots quarterback’s throwing shoulder has resided on the injury report for the past three weeks. No game designations have followed. And after being named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his upset performance against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium, he completed 26-of-34 passes for 374 yards last Sunday at Gillette Stadium while accounting for five total touchdowns.
