Greetings, BBN!
Texas A&M rolled past LSU in what turned out to be Brian Kelly’s last game in Baton Rouge, Alabama survived a scare from South Carolina on the road, Ole Miss bested Oklahoma in Norman in a battle
of 6-1 records, Vandy did the same hosting 6-1 Mizzou, Texas survived Mississippi State in their second straight overtime game, Tennessee beat Kentucky, and Auburn beat Arkansas in a loaded Week 9 in the SEC.
Let’s take a look at the standings heading into Week 10:
Notes:
- Georgia cannot make the SEC championship game if Texas A&M and Alabama both win out. They all have three conference games remaining.
- Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, and Texas are all in similar shoes to Georgia, though the Rebels have a head-to-head loss to the Bulldogs, keeping them behind UGA, and Texas has a game with the Aggies at the end of the season.
- Three teams are still winless in the conference, lifting the teams ahead of them at their expense: Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Kentucky.
- Auburn finally got an SEC win with their road victory at Arkansas. Bowl eligibility awaits them if they can get past Kentucky and FCS Mercer. I’d worry more about Mercer than the Wildcats.
- Vanderbilt has a difficult test ahead of it next week when it travels to Austin to face Texas. The Longhorns haven’t been playing great as of late, but it is on their home turf.
- Georgia and Florida, the only teams off in Week 9, will face off in Week 10 in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party in Jacksonville. Both could really use the win for different reasons.
- Oklahoma and Tennessee square off next week in Knoxville in a CFP elimination game, as both teams are 6-2 and can’t afford to take a third loss.
- Kentucky’s two best chances to avoid going 0-8 are in these next two weeks: at Auburn and hosting Florida.
