The United States Women’s National Team hit the field one final time during this international window tonight as they face Spain for a second time. The hope is that the USWNT can earn a split of the series after Spain won 2-0 on Saturday in DC.
After the match on Saturday, head coach Emma Hayes leaned into her team to have them understand that the little details were the difference in that match. Now, they have to put that behind them and concentrate on trying to have a solid performance against the reigning
Women’s World Cup champions and the #1 team in the world.
For Spain, they had some times where they threw their weight around, but they were just able to capitalize on their early opportunities. Spain only had six shots, with just three on target. Two went in. Meanwhile, the USWNT had 13 shots, 10 of them on frame. None of them went in. Some of that was just being unlucky, but the USWNT had some qualities that they can carry to this match with the belief that they will be successful this time around. We find out tonight if they can split the series and take a win out of the international break.
