Manuel Neuer hinted that he might retire at the close of the 2026/27 season, which would mean Jonas Urbig will finally don the gloves as the starting goalkeeper the following season. The 23-year-old was surprisingly unaware of the statement, yet he maintained the relationship between him, Neuer, and longtime deputy Sven Ulreich is intact.
“I actually didn’t know he said that. I’m hearing it for the first time,” Urbig confessed (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “Generally speaking, the exchange
with Manu is good, with Sven, with the entire goalkeeping team. That’s a different topic and it concerns Manu. We’re just happy we have such a togetherness within our goalkeeping team.”
Urbig remains committed to his role at Bayern, knowing that he will still get chances to play and that he is learning from the best in the business (in his prime, anyway) so it’s all working out perfectly for him.
