Daniel Palencia left the game Sept. 7 vs. the Nationals with a shoulder injury [VIDEO].
The injury was deemed not serious, and Palencia threw 21 pitches in a rehab outing for Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.
Today, Palencia was activated from the injured list. To make room on the active roster, left-hander Jordan Wicks was optioned to the team’s Arizona complex (because Iowa’s season is over).
Don’t necessarily expect Palencia to return to closing immediately, according to Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network, quoting manager Craig Counsell:
“I think what’s important for Danny is that we get him outings on somewhat of a little bit of a schedule when we get him activated here,” Counsell said. “So, that’s the most important thing is to get him outings.
“But I don’t think at this point we’re going to focus on when the outings come, it’s like we got to get him outings, and we got to get probably some rest and things like that. So, we’re going to prioritize just getting him on the mound.”
As always, we await developments.
