UConn announced that rising senior Solo Ball will be taking a medical redshirt for the upcoming season, with plans to undergo wrist surgery. He will return to action for the 2027-2028 season, having dealt with this wrist injury throughout the 2025-2026 campaign.
Ball has started 74 games for the Huskies over the last two seasons, averaging 12.8 PPG this past season after hitting 41 percent of his threes at 14.4 PPG the previous year.
“Solo is a true Husky and a champion who would do anything to be
out on the court,” head coach Dan Hurley said in a statement from the school. “This guy has shown throughout his career what a warrior he is. Solo is going to use the season to get his wrist fully healthy and then come back next year as one of the best guards in America while cementing his legacy as an all-time great at UConn.”
The Huskies have been retaining most key players while making some huge additions in the portal in Seton Hall center Najai Hines and Duke wing Nikolas Khamenia. They’ll also have Braylon Mullins back in their backcourt along with point guard Silas Demary Jr. and a couple of talented freshmen expected to contribute early.
Jayden Ross is also likely to be in line for a significant role for the Huskies next season, though they are also likely to still go looking in the portal for more depth.
