The second LSU Tiger is off the board in the 2026 MLB Draft.
LSU outfielder Jake Brown was taken 65th overall by the Seattle Mariners, joining former teammate Kade Anderson in the Pacific Northwest.
Brown, a Sulphur, LA native, had 16 home runs in limited work in 2026, appearing in just 42 games. He missed most of the SEC schedule with a broken bone in his hand suffered on April 19 against Texas A&M.
Brown was a top prospect out of high school, getting drafted in the 16th round before deciding to join
the Tigers in 2024. A year later, he was a key contributor in the national championship run as a role player.
His career numbers include a .304 batting average, 132 base hits, 20 doubles, 28 home runs, and 110 runs batted in. He was a great pitching prospect, but never saw the bump while wearing the Purple and Gold.
Now, Brown and his family will have a decision to make in terms of whether he wants the slot value of just over $1.3 million or if he wants to return to Baton Rouge for one more season in hopes of raising that overall draft number.
A scout told the Advocate that Brown “plays hard; he’s passionate. I think he can move the ball when he needs to, hit for power when he needs to.”
“He can play defense, and he can run. He can do a little bit of everything. He’s a fun player to watch and be a good player for somebody to draft for sure.”
