After Germany’s 4-0 win over Finland last night, the two sides met against for an unofficial training match meant to warm up the players who didn’t play in the actual game.
Germany won 1-0 through an own goal from a corner in the second half. The game was played in two 25-minute halves.
The four-time world champions lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, although one could argue that it was a 4-3-3. Alexander Nübel started in goal. Waldemar Anton and David Raum flanked Antonio Rüdiger and Malik Thiaw in defense.
The midfield trio consisted of Pascal Groß, Angelo Stiller, and Leon Goretzka. Nick Woltemade started up top with Leroy Sané and Jamie Leweling as the wingers. Nadiem Amiri and Maximilian Beier came on in the second half. Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig made his unofficial debut for the national team, playing the entire second half.
As a no-stakes training match, the game was largely uneventful apart from the (own) goal. Urbig was called into action with a rare Finnish chance, and made a fine stop. Otherwise, it was Germany who controlled the game, and they did fashion some good chances, but failed to make the most of them.
The team will leave for the USA tomorrow, and play their final friendly against the Americans on Saturday. Their World Cup campaign kicks off in just under two weeks against Curaçao on the 14th of June.
