Prior to Bayern Munich’s 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, it was announced that Konrad Laimer was going to sit out the match due to load management. This, of course, put up the “panic antenna” for many fans as the Austrian star had just returned from a torn muscle fiber in his calf.
After the win, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl was responding to questions and addressed the issue of Laimer, along with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. In short, Eberl said that both players
could be active for Der Klassiker vs. Borussia Dortmund next weekend:
The deployments of #Neuer and #Laimer next Saturday against Dortmund are, according to Eberl, “not ruled out.” #FCBayern
Getting Neuer back so soon seems…risky. Ditto for Laimer if he is not fully ready to go. While Borussia Dortmund is undoubtedly a massive game, the Bavarians have shot themselves in the foot several times this season with players either returning too early from injury or playing through an injury.
The health of the players should be paramount with three titles still at stake.
