When Niclas Füllkrug was deemed unavailable, German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann called up Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier, per the DFB’s official website:
Striker Niclas Füllkrug is unavailable to national coach Julian Nagelsmann. The international from English Premier League club West Ham United is sidelined due to minor muscle problems in his left calf.
Nagelsmann commented on the situation as well.
“Niclas had a few problems after training on Wednesday, then things got better
again. This morning it was very, very bad again. We took an image, and there was nothing noticeable, but it’s a bad spot on his calf with a lot of risk,” Nagelsmann told ARD. “We’ll call up Maxi Beier from Borussia Dortmund in his place. He’ll arrive this evening, train on Friday, and be available on Sunday.”
