Columbus lost to Louisville yesterday, but Kody Huff hit his 20th homer of the season while playing third base. Cooper Ingle had two hits playing catcher, and Kahlil Watson had two hits and a walk. Ben Lively looked solid in four and two-thirds, surrendering one run on four hits and two walks, striking out four, but Connor Brogdon was, again awful in the ninth. Steven Perez had two and a third scoreless innings, though, striking out four, showing that all hope for him as a left-handed
reliever may not yet be lost.

Akron had perhaps the most exciting lineup of any Guardians’ affiliate in 2027 last night, so, of course, they got shutout. With Ryan Cesarini, Jaison Chourio, Jace LaViolette, Nolan Schubart, Aaron Walton, Dean Curley, Luke Hill, Welbyn Francisca and Bennett Thompson in the lineup, there wasn’t a single hitter who isn’t an interesting prospect in the Cleveland system. Cesarini, Chourio, Hill and Francisca each got singles (Francisca with his first AA hit!) and Schubart walked twice. Braylon Doughty had his penultimate start of 2026 going five and a third, surrendering eight hits, two walks and three runs, striking out one. He got BABIP’d to death, but you’d like to see more whiff from the Guardians’ top pitching prospect. Maybe it’ll show up in his last start of the season, scheduled for Sunday.
