Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Diamondbacks fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
This was largely inspired by Webb_Gemz’s excellent Feed article, going over the myriad of possible causes for the malaise which has affected the D-backs this year. If you haven’t read it, I strongly recommend you do so now. But I wanted to gauge the overall sentiment of fans
with regard to who is most responsible for the team’s 2025 failures. They currently sit on pace for the fewest wins since 2022, despite the highest payroll in franchise history. Even the 74 wins recorded that season is by no means guaranteed, if the past few games are any guide and looking at a tough September schedule. If that happens, the calls for change will certainly become louder still.
While I would rather not dwell on what is rapidly heading towards #DeadHorse territory, matters have certainly not been helped of late by KetelGate. Questions have been raised – some legitimate, and maybe others not so much – about the team’s handling of their MVP, which has reportedly rubbed some team-mates the wrong way. This has grown outside being an Arizona thing, and has been receiving coverage in the national media, focusing attention on the D-backs in an unwanted (and largely unhelpful, given the very limited information we have) way. But it certainly has ramped up criticism, on just about everyone involved in the team.
So, in the interests of keeping things as simple as possible: who do you hold MOST responsible? There are five options to choose from in the poll below, and as usual, explain your reasoning in the comments. I’ll probably be back with the results at some point on Thursday’s off-day.
