Barcelona take on Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday in a match that will see César Soto Grado take charge of the game.
If that name is familiar it’s because he was the referee of the Clasico last year which Real Madrid won 3-2 and had it’s fair slice of controversy.
Yamal thought he’d put Barca 2-1 up but saw his ‘ghost goal’ not given as it could not be confirmed the ball had crossed the line.
That decision left Barca furious, with Xavi claiming “everyone” could see the ball had crossed the line,
while Joan Laporta starting talking about asking for a replay.
Madrid were also awarded a controversial penalty when Lucas Vazquez went to ground under pressure from Pau Cubarsi.
His appointment is likely to please Real Madrid, which has been unusually quiet ahead of the game, but will no doubt be quick to point out anything it doesn’t like about the referee’s performance.
This is expected to César Soto Grado’s final season as a referee, as he is expected to hang up his whistle at the end of the season.
