Some pro wrestlers get injured, and we don’t hear much from or even about them until they return to a ring and our screens.
Not Nikki Bella. She initially attempting to work the world about her broken ankle ahead of WrestleMania 42 as she tried to get cleared, and then to save Paige’s “surprise” return as Brie’s teammate and her replacement. But since then she’s pretty much been an open book about the whole process.
With reports suggesting she’s close to getting cleared to reappear on WWE programming,
Bella offered her latest update on the latest Nikki & Brie Show out today (July 20) and filmed live at the just-completed Fanatics Fest in New York City.
Three months out from surgery, the WWE Hall of Famer said she was told to start doing squats a month into rehab and has been doing them ever since. She recently went to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida for more work with WWE’s team. That included a practice match designed to put her repaired ankle through the toughest tasks it will face in a match. It brought up some anxiety related to getting hurt, but Bella pushed through it:
“When I went to the PC to get cleared, they’re like, ‘You look like a Nike commercial.’ Because everything, like, if they wanted me to sprint, it was 110 percent sprinting and just doing all the things because I wanted to prove how good I was. Like, jumping high.
“But then it was funny because they go, ‘Okay, now go to the top turnbuckle and just like jump in the middle.’ Because they wanted to see how much — that messed me up a little bit. Like I got up there and I’m like, no, I’m going to break my ankle again. I’m like, if I re-break my ankle — [but] I was good. I was good.”
Once she gets back, her sister has an idea for a dream team at Survivor Series WarGames in Houston this November. Nikki seems to really sell AJ Lee and Paige on it by telling them they can use the match to work out their “trauma”, though. Check it out:
