Bayern Munich took its next step to advance its women’s program via the purchase of Sportpark Unterhaching, which will serve as the primary training grounds and game stadium for the FC Bayern München Frauen.
“The acquisition of Sportpark Unterhaching is another milestone in the overall development of our FC Bayern Women. The new sporting home of our women’s team will meet UEFA requirements and also satisfy spectator demand in the future. In the medium term, Sportpark Unterhaching is to become the new home for
the whole of FC Bayern women’s football. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Unterhaching’s mayor, Wolfgang Panzer, for our very positive and constructive discussions. My thanks also go to the president of SpVgg Unterhaching, Manfred Schwabl. Our clubs have been partners for a long time, and this spirit has also characterized the close communication over the past few weeks,” Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said in a release from FCBayern.com.
Mayor of Unterhaching, Wolfgang Panzer, is ecstatic about the move and the increased focus that the venue will have on it.
“Unterhaching has a long tradition as a sporting community. Our teams participate in national and international competitions, and we’ve produced medal winners and Olympic champions at the Olympic Games. Of course, sporting history has also been made at the Unterhaching stadium. I’m delighted that FC Bayern will now continue all these success stories with its women’s teams. I know the whole of Unterhaching – especially grassroots sport – will benefit from these developments and this momentum. That’s another reason why we in the municipal council unanimously voted to entrust our Sportpark to FC Bayern. It’s in good hands there,” Panzer remarked.
Finally, SpVgg Unterhaching president Manfred Schwabl said that this was the end of a long process that should benefit all parties.
“Over the past weeks and months, we’ve had intensive discussions about how we want to shape our future at the Sportpark. Ultimately, in consultation with the municipality of Unterhaching and FC Bayern, we came to the conclusion that the best solution for SpVgg Unterhaching is to enter into a partnership with FC Bayern as the future owner of the stadium,” Schwabl said. “This means we’ll retain our sporting home at the stadium in the Sportpark, and infrastructure measures will ensure it is fit for the future with the ever-growing demands of professional football. I’d like to express my sincere thanks to FC Bayern, led by Jan-Christian Dreesen, for our fair and constructive discussions. We’ve found a solution that is beneficial to all parties and marks another milestone in our partnership.”
