After Roxanne Perez earned a title shot for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, many wondered if La Catalina’s reign would be one and done in her first title defense at Worlds Collide in Chicago. The WWE superstar did her best to cheat, but the AAA luchadora was too savvy. Catalina prevailed to retain the gold, and Roxanne was a sore loser.
Without the Judgment Day by Roxanne’s side, she leaned into cheating tactics. Roxanne started by faking a knee injury only to attack Catalina when her back was
turned.
When Catalina regained momentum, Roxanne pulled the ring apron to distract the referee from her gouging Catalina’s eyes. Roxanne followed for a Shining Wizard, but that wasn’t enough to keep Catalina down.
Both women rose to throw blows. Roxanne went high-risk for a double jump moonsualt. Catalina put her knees up to block. The champ executed the One Winged Angel. Roxanne kicked out.
Later in the match, Catalina surged for her finishing sequence. She nailed a running hip attack to Roxanne in the ropes. Next came a running knee. Roxanne blocked and countered for a roll-up with her feet on the ropes. The ref counted to 2 then noticed Roxanne cheating.
In the end, Roxanne went for the Pop Rox finisher. Catalina shed her off to counter for a back slide. The champ bridged over the top to trap Roxanne for the win. Afterward, Roxanne attacked Catalina like a sore loser to stand tall with the title.
This match is worth watching for fans of either wrestler. Catalina and Roxanne wrestled with personality in the ring. The action flowed well playing into the cheating spots and the finish. It’s not Roxanne’s time yet as Catalina’s reign is just getting started. The post-match aggression leaves the window open to revisit this as a feud down the line.
Worlds Collide is available for free on YouTube in English from WWE and in Spanish from AAA.
