Did you think the Virginia Tech Hokies were finished? While the transfer portal may have closed on Friday, players who entered it on or before the 16th can still commit. On Saturday, head coach James Franklin landed another potential starter via the portal, when Ohio State offensive tackle Justin Terry revealed his commitment to Virginia Tech.
Terry is a 6-foot-5, 324-pound offensive tackle from Pickerington, Ohio. A 3-star recruit in the 2024
recruiting class, Terry originally committed to West Virginia, where current Virginia Tech offensive line coach Matt Moore was at the time. Terry entered the transfer portal after his first season in Morgantown and almost picked the Hokies last year, but once the hometown Buckeyes offered, Terry went to Ohio State.
After not playing as a true freshman in 2024 and earning a redshirt year, he played only 57 snaps for the Buckeyes in 2025, appearing in six games — all at right tackle. If things go as we believe, Terry could start at right tackle for Virginia Tech in 2026, while Oklahoma transfer Logan Howland lines up at left tackle. Incumbents Johnny Garrett and Aidan Lynch will also be in the mix.
A redshirt freshman in 2025, Lynch showed tremendous promise under Moore’s guidance and figures to compete with Terry at right tackle.
Terry is the second former Buckeye joining the Hokies’ 2026 portal haul, following defensive tackle Eric Mensah. It’s a far cry from previous portals, when the Hokies were landing linemen from FCS schools.
