Since word of Bron Breakker’s hernia surgery
hit on Sunday, it feels like we’ve been getting a report roughly every hour on the rising WWE star’s status and whether or not his injury changed any plans for Royal Rumble two Saturdays ago or WrestleMania 42 in a few months. The last thing we saw yesterday (Mon., Feb. 9) said WWE was “optimistic” Breakker would be back in time for April 18-19’s Showcase of the Immortals in Las Vegas. WWE announced the injury on the latest Raw as a hiatal hernia, which
is when an organ — typically the stomach — protrudes through the diaphragm, or the large muscle between your abdomen and your chest. Michael Cole said Bron is out “indefinitely”.
Per Dr. Google, recovery from hiatal hernia surgery can vary from 4-6 weeks to 10-12 weeks. That latter timeframe is the one Dave Meltzer reported on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio:
“It could take a couple months… before he comes back, depending on a lot of different things… It had nothing to do with the Rumble, even though he probably had it long before that… it’s just he got checked out and needed emergency surgeries…
“No one’s really given me a timetable… it could be 12 weeks, could be six months at worst — probably not that long, but again, I don’t know all the details. His situation was worse than [hernias that requires a less invasive surgery that only require a 2-month recovery]… this was a major operation.“
So there you have it… a lot of words to say “we don’t know”. Welcome to the wrestle web, can’t wait to see it unfold on Netflix’s WWE UnReal season four later this year.
