MLB Trade Rumors: The Chicago Cubs are acquiring pitcher Edward Cabrera from the Miami Marlins, per multiple reports. No word as of yet as to who is going to Miami in this deal.
Cabrera, who turns 28 in April, is a righthanded starter who first debuted in the majors with the Marlins in 2021. A consensus top 100 prospect for several years leading up to his establishing himself in the majors in 2022, Cabrera has a history of control problems that he has battled, as well as a worrisome injury history.
Cabrera had his best season in 2025 — after putting up a 4.32 ERA and 4.75 FIP in 294 innings over 61 starts and two relief appearances from 2021-24, and never throwing more than 100 major league innings in a single season in that span, Cabrera logged 137.2 IP in 26 starts in 2025, with a 3.53 ERA and a 3.83 FIP. His walk rate, which had ranged from 4.1 BB/9 to 6.5 BB/9 in his previous four major league seasons, dropped to 3.1 per 9 in 2025.
Cabrera has three years of team control remaining, and is arbitration-eligible this year, after having made $1.95 million in 2025.
When more info on the return is available, I will update.
