Yesterday (Feb. 6), I covered two retired wrestlers’ recent answers to what was essentially the “one more match” question.
Big E, who has essentially been retired since 2022 when his neck was broken in a match
on WWE SmackDown, used the phrase “never say never” in his answer. If he hasn’t used those exact words before, it’s a sentiment E’s expressed in past answer. But in all of his answers, the man we like to call Large Epsilon has alway emphasized that he’s grateful for his time in pro wrestling, but also grateful that he’s relatively pain-free despite a litany of injuries suffered over a lifetime of bodybuilding and strength training, playing football, and being a wrestler. Most importantly, E is happy with his life as it is.
Possibly because articles like mine gave people the impression the former WWE champ was closer to returning than he’s been, E decided to reiterate those thoughts and feelings again last night on social media:
I entered the pro wrestling industry at age 23 with an injury history that included a Torn Left ACL, Torn Right ACL, Torn Left Pec, and a Broken Right Patella. At 39, I’m well aware, that I will one day have to pay the piper. I’ve put my body through a lot. And somehow, I feel great. I don’t battle daily pain. I’m able to function normally and healthfully. I’m eternally grateful for the wonderful career I stumbled into. I pray for all of my fellow athletes and performers who have not had the same good fortune. A sincere thank you to everyone who has taken the time to follow my in-ring career. It was an immeasurable gift to get to perform for you all.
Classy stuff, but that’s what we’ve come to expect from E.
The other guy I wrote about along with Big E yesterday? He followed up saying “never” by making a lot of folks worried that Ricky Steamboat had died.
In a world of Epsilons and Naitchs, be an Epsilon.
