It took until week seven of the 2026 NFL season, but the Miami Dolphins have earned their first victory of the year by downing the hated New York Jets by a score of 28-25 on Sunday. The win comes after multiple one-score losses in a row. Does this indicate that Jeff Hafley’s squad has turned the corner and are ready to add more tallies to the victory chalkboard — or was this simply a feel-good moment for an organization that is deep in the throngs of yet another rebuild?
At this point, it’s too early
to tell. Just like how Sunday’s performance from first-year starting quarterback, Malik Willis, was an incredible sight to see — but it doesn’t mean he’ll continue to put up elite numbers as the season rolls on.
Miami Dolphins Week Seven MVP – QB Malik Willis
The last time Dolphins fans saw Malik Willis in action was in week five against the Cincinnati Bengals… and let’s just say that after his three turnover day, there was some very strong condemnation coming from the team’s fanbase. People were calling for his benching while declaring his signing a massive misstep.
“Well, well, well, how the turntables…”
On Sunday in New Jersey, Willis completed 14 of 21 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 37 yards rushing on eight carries and scoring a third touchdown with his legs. He finished the day with a 130.7 passer rating.
According to Kyle Crabbs of A to Z Sports, Willis’ day was even better when you take a deeper look at the numbers. His expected points added (EPA) against the Jets was the fifth best single-game EPA per drop back total out of any quarterback this season.
With his strong week seven performance, Willis joined an exclusive list of quarterbacks with at least 1,000 yards passing and 200 yards rushing on the year.
