It was an agonizing trip in Philadelphia, where the Atlanta Braves dealt with the Phillies about as well as bullpen catcher Matt Winn did against Philly cheese steaks. That’s to say, not well, with Atlanta dropping the four-game series.
After a week on the road, Atlanta wraps up their 10-game road trip in the Windy City, where they face a team just as strong as the one they just played. Thankfully for the Braves, winning or losing doesn’t matter that much any more in 2025, they are just playing for the love
of the game.
The Chicago Cubs, who Atlanta will visit for a three-game affair, are still playing for something more than pride as they are in the thick of the National League Central division race and the NL Wild Card.
The Cubs will roll-out an excellent line-up, headlined by Pete Crow-Armstrong, who is closing in on a 30/30 season, Kyle Tucker – who has gone 20/20 himself, Michael Busch, Seiya Suzuki and Nico Hoerner. The team’s bullpen has also been excellent but their starting staff has been their weak spot, although that says more about how good they have been rather than the performance of their rotation.
With the Cubs having the third-best record in the NL coming into Sunday, and holding the top Wild Card spot, they seem assured to be in the post-season but with the Milwaukee Brewers ahead of them by 6.5 games, the division is slipping out of reach.
