Michigan is set to lose another member of its secondary, as senior starting safety Brandyn Hillman is entering the transfer portal, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Hillman’s loss could prove to be a big one for Michigan, as he was a big piece of the Wolverine secondary this year. He made an impression toward the end of the 2024 season, becoming known for his aggressive style of play and hard-hitting. He finished the 2025 season with a total of 49 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and three pass breakups.
He originally joined the program as a member of the 2023 recruiting class. He was the No. 226 overall player in the 247Sports composite and played his high school ball at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Hillman is one of a handful of players in Michigan’s secondary that has entered the transfer portal in recent days, along with cornerbacks Elijah Dotson and Jayden Sanders, as well as safeties Jordan Young and Jaden Mangham. Michigan’s safety depth is starting to thin out a bit with Mason Curtis and T.J. Metcalf the only big names set to return for the 2026 season so far – although a sixth year for Rod Moore isn’t off the table yet.
