Yuck.
Game Recap in Three Sentences
A 10-point halftime lead was quickly erased in a third quarter in which Tech only ran eight plays for 21 yards.
A late Mendoza INT deep in Stanford territory halted a potential comeback.
The run defense finally showed up but it was at the expense of the passing defense giving up nearly 400 yards through the air.
Above The Line of the Week
- Trelain Maddox. He finally made a big impact in the run game while also catching a passing TD.
- New England autumn. I spent the weekend on an island in New Hampshire for a wedding filled with great friends and cozy nor’easter weather. Bring on the pumpkin ale and pullovers.
- Rahkeem Smith. He continues to be dynamic and deadly on kick returns; get the ball in this man’s hands on offense please.
Law of the Week
It should be illegal for east coast teams to play night games on the west coast. Think of the players but also think of me, a sleepy guy.
5 Star (7 Star, 5 Star) Developmental Program Haiku of the Week

Panic Mode
I’m not really sure I see how this is going to get better. We’re past the point where just a couple of adjustments are gonna fix things meaningfully; every aspect of what we’re doing feels so fundamentally flawed. Unfortunately we’re pretty locked in at this point though – Godsey and his uninspired play-calling aren’t going anywhere, the OL is who they are, and the defense isn’t going to become dependable overnight. We either need a core, fundamental shift in thinking and execution or a miracle. There are no comfortable wins left on the schedule as far as I’m concerned and the hole is getting deeper. October 2025 feels like a looooooong time ago.
Look Ahead
Up next is a bye week that could not be more needed. The vibes are incredibly bad right now and a break is probably what everyone desperately needs. I’d love a miracle to come out of the other side, but let’s at least hope that something changes before Duke on 10/10.
